AS if to prove a point that their win last year was no fluke, the Police FC showed grit and confidence to win the finals of the second edition of the GT Beer/Candy Boss, Antics Promotion 8-a-side Football Tournament.

The lawmen made it two in a row, defeating a challenging Paradise Football Club by four goals to three (4-3).

The much-touted finals attracted a large gathering of well-schooled football lovers who were treated to a ding-dong battle between the finalists at the All Saints School ground on Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam.

The game started at a breezy pace with both teams showing their eagerness to score. Defending champions Police made plays that created opportunities early on and by the 20-minute, Striker Deon Rodney, in a matter of two minutes netted back-to-back goals in the 21st and 22nd minutes.

Deon Rodney scored two crucial goals in the opening stages of the game After the respite, Paradise found some life in their game, courtesy of a Peter Wilson’s goal in the 34 th ; evidently, this goal brought the supporters of Paradise to a frenzy. Four minutes later, the lawmen placed their hands up with a third goal coming off the boot of Mark Roach in the 38th minute.

Police FC pocketed $600,000 and a large trophy for the win

It was mention by the promoters that presentation of prizes will be done in the month of February for the winning teams and individual awardees

32 teams from the Berbice, Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and West Demerara areas started the tournament
