Opposition Leader: Stands for the rights of qualified citizens to own firearms

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar wants to know why the government is so transfixed and obsessed with citizens that have legal firearms. In a press release issued today, she criticised what she called the PNM‘s attack on legal, licensed gun owners.

The following is a press release from the Opposition Leader:

On Monday night, Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the UNC‘s Virtual Report criticised the PNM’s attack on legal, licensed gun owners.

She observed, “This government together with their hand-picked Commissioner of Police is telling us about legal firearms and limiting firearms. What on earth are you doing about the illegal guns in the country? Tell us about that. Why are you so transfixed and obsessed with persons that have their guns with a legal license?…”

“Other government Ministers and their families, are protected by the best trained officers, who are all armed with legally issued firearms, whilst Jacob wages a war against citizens with legal firearms, even though 87% of the 519 murders have been committed by illegal firearms…”

Not everybody gets 24/7 security like Stuart Young. Why does Stuart Young have a security detail?”

The UNC stands for the rights of qualified citizens to own firearms to protect themselves and their families from criminals.

This policy is in stark contrast with that of the PNM, who want to severely limit the number of persons allowed to own firearms. According to the PNM, only the elite should own firearms. They want ordinary citizens and their families to remain defenseless in the face of a murder rate that we have never seen before in our history.

The UNC is firmly against that policy

As in areas of property tax (UNC is against it), maintaining the fuel subsidy (UNC is for it), providing incentives for energy companies (UNC is for it), giving laptops to all SEA students (UNC is for it), education policy, wage policy, and so many other concrete areas, the UNC stands in stark contrast to the PNM

Not only in policy but in practice is the UNC a clearly different – and superior – choice

Official statistics show, in every area of life, from the cost of living, to murder rates, to infrastructural development, to investing in children and education, to the cost of gas and diesel, to the availability of foreign exchange, there is a noticeable difference in the performance of the two parties, felt in everybody’s daily life

Life in Trinidad and Tobago has always been sunnier under the UNC, and bloodier under the PNM

Vote for the PNM if you want to remain defenseless in the face of criminal elements, or vote for the UNC if you wish to see murder and crime decrease and you wish to have the right to defend yourself with firearms, pepper spray, and other defensive technologies

Trinidadians and Tobagonians, therefore, have a clear choice in the upcoming elections, local or general, whenever they are called

Elections have consequences

We must vote wisely, and in our numbers!
